For most, spending any time in the Ontario Burwash Correctional Facility would not be something on the wishlist. Except for photographer Mike Palmer. You see this guy thrives on stepping out of the comfort zone.
You only need to take a look at his work to realise this.
The Ontario Burwash Correctional Facility was finally shutdown in 1973 and was located in the beauty of Northern Ontario. Set in a very remote location the facility was not accessible by road. Thankfully Mike owned a canoe!
You can almost hear the sounds of the inmates in these chilling pictures, at one stage over 600 of them fending for themselves, as the land was an active farm ran by the inmates too.
Who knows what really went on here? One thing for sure though, these pictures taken long after its closure certainly tell a few stories of their own.
I am not sure I would be willing to venture in to this place alone….
