Shicheng in China has been buried underwater now for around 53 years. It was originally founded around 1300 years ago and had a bustling community in and around Thousand Island Lake. They used to call the city the Lion City, this is because the famous five lion mountain was right behind it.
A dam flooded the valley the city once laid in and it vanished to make way for a new power station and now is home to the famous man-made lake.
Such a shame that a complete city was wiped out to make way for a dam and power station, but needs must I guess. The amazing thing is though, it has now become a tourist trap for divers from all over the world.
Luckily a few were on hand recently to take these pictures!
Below is an artists impression of the city 1300 years ago.
