The next time your son or daughter whinges and whines on about how hard life is being a student maybe you should show them these incredible pictures that are being shared around the internet taken at Goce Delchev University in Skopje Macedonia.
The University itself, Skopje and the surrounding area looks incredible beautiful and a great place to visit as you will see in the tourist promotional video below but go further and see what the students of the University have to endure.

Students there are forced to live in seriously disgusting conditions. Conditions so bad that even human rights campaigners would object if rapists and paedophiles were imprisoned in a place like this, and if anyone deserved to live in this kind of squalor it is them and not students.
Students should be the future of a nation but what future are they working towards living in a place like this? A future of Ill health and depression?
The buildings are covered in mould, filth and decay. They are simply falling apart and beyond repair, the best thing for these buildings is to be flattened but if you want an education at the Goce Delchev University then you have to live here. The University is considered the second best school in Macedonia but the condition of the Skopje dorms are so bad you cannot believe people would actually go there. But they do, I would hate to see the worse school!
The building pictured is the biggest in the country and houses 1200+ students.

Conditions inside are so bad, leaking pipes are a common occurrence leaving pools of water everywhere.
Imgur
“There is no warm water. The problem is being fixed.” and “Go take a shower at your boyfriends’ places!” Hot water is not available on a daily basis as you would expect.
Imgur
You could mistaken this as a scene in a derelict institution or hospital in a horror film but it is just one of the buildings normal hallways that have broken lights and leaking pipes.
Imgur
Going barefoot is not advised in this building!
Imgur
Filthy and mouldy walls are throughout the building.
Imgur
Virtually all hallways are rundown and in a state of disrepair.
Imgur
To get food the students have to make their way to the lunch room early otherwise they can miss out due to the shortage.
Imgur
The food shortage means there is just enough to feed a quarter of the students who live in the dorm.
Imgur
Pasta, potatoes, chicken steaks and sausages is the basic food on offer everyday.
Imgur
Cockroaches and insects on the food is also a too common occurrence.
Imgur
Tasty looking spaghetti and sausage… Not!
Imgur
The potatoes are badly peeled and under cooked.
Imgur
They are basically raw and appear to be the dregs of the crop.
Imgur
Hmmmmm not sure, is it lettuce and…?
Imgur
Plenty of fresh air is available to buy.
Imgur
Students are given coupons to the cost of roughly 65 Euros a month to spend within the student buildings in Skopje. The student coupon store is where students are expected to buy products which are supposedly ‘half the price’ of those sold in local supermarkets. It would appear the store itself is more than half empty!
Imgur
“No salt.” Basic supplies are non-existent, however that is good, salt isn’t good for you 🙂 .
Imgur
Either this is a very short and hairy student or there is a stray dog sleeping on one of the dorms couches.
Imgur
Getting repairs done by the caretaker is beyond a joke and students will pay for repairs themselves.
Imgur
Almost every room suffers from damp, mould and moisture issues.
Imgur
Running water is usually cold and from broken pipes.
Imgur
Clothes are hard to dry when the rooms are so damp
Imgur
Believe it or not it took months for this disgusting mattress to be replaced.
Imgur
Shared bathrooms are in dorm blocks A and B, while blocks V and G have bathrooms in each room and they are all this disgusting.
Imgur
More damage waiting to be repaired, it will be a long wait.
Imgur
This is one of the “better” bathrooms.
Imgur
Just what every room needs… dirt and damage!
Imgur
Would you want to shower in these shower cubicles?
Imgur
Surprisingly most of the showers don’t work.
Imgur
A damaged and unusable wash room left derelict.
Imgur
The hallways and elevators are unsafe because there is major flooding from broken pipes and no one does anything about it.
Imgur
Some walls are simply falling apart.
Imgur
I can honestly say that I would not want to live here even if you paid me a lot.
Imgur
How is this for a comparison!
Imgur
Everyday students run the risk of catching serious diseases and ill health from the mould, damp, fungi and insects. The amount of damp and standing water found throughout the buildings is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and insects.
No student needs to be living like this while trying to study for their future. I just hope that many of the students are studying, care-taking, building trades, architecture and renovation. 🙂
If you were as disgusted with this as much as we are please share on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus so others can be aware of what young students are expected to deal with.
